Cloud Migration

Move Your Business to the Cloud

I shift your files, software, and databases to secure cloud infrastructure, with minimal downtime, proper security, and ongoing costs that make sense for your business.

What Is Cloud Migration?

Cloud migration means moving your business's digital systems — files, databases, software, or entire servers — off local hardware or outdated hosting and onto modern cloud infrastructure like Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

The result is a setup that's more reliable, easier to access from anywhere, cheaper to run long-term, and far easier to scale as your business grows. You stop worrying about old hardware failing, paying for servers you barely use, or being unable to access files when you're away from the office.

I handle the technical heavy lifting — planning, data transfer, security configuration, cost optimisation, and testing — so you can stay focused on running your business while I sort out the move.

Still Running on Old Infrastructure?

These are the warning signs I hear most often.

"Our server is old and if it dies, I don't know what we'd do. All our data is on it."

"We're paying for hosting we set up years ago and have no idea if we're getting value for money."

"Staff can't access files or systems when they're working remotely or out on the road."

"Our software is hosted on a machine under someone's desk. It goes down whenever there's a power cut."

"We have no proper backups. If something goes wrong, we could lose everything."

"Our IT costs keep creeping up and I can't tell what we're actually spending on or why."

What I Migrate

Common migration projects for regional businesses, farms, and retailers across Australia.

Files & Document Storage

  • • Move shared drives from local servers to Google Cloud Storage
  • • Set up proper folder structures and access controls
  • • Ensure all staff can access what they need from anywhere
  • • Configure automated backups so nothing is ever lost

Databases

  • • Migrate MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server to managed cloud databases
  • • Zero data loss transfers with rollback plans
  • • Right-size the database so you're not overpaying
  • • Configure automated backups and point-in-time recovery

Web Apps & Internal Tools

  • • Re-host web applications on scalable cloud infrastructure
  • • Move internal tools off local machines to always-on cloud servers
  • • Set up staging environments so updates are tested before going live
  • • Improve load times with proper CDN and caching configuration

On-Premise to Cloud (Lift & Shift)

  • • Move workloads from physical hardware to virtual machines on GCP
  • • Decommission aging on-site servers safely
  • • Maintain the same software and workflows your team already knows
  • • Reduce risk of hardware failure and associated downtime

Legacy Hosting to GCP

  • • Move away from old shared hosting or expensive managed servers
  • • Audit current hosting costs and identify savings
  • • Transfer domains, SSL certificates, and DNS cleanly
  • • Improve reliability with Google's enterprise-grade uptime

Security & Access Hardening

  • • Apply least-privilege access so staff only see what they need to
  • • Enable encryption at rest and in transit for all data
  • • Set up audit logs so you know who accessed what and when
  • • Remove overly broad permissions that create unnecessary risk

How a Migration Works

A careful, well-planned process that protects your data every step of the way.

1

Discovery

I map what you have, where it lives, and what a successful migration looks like for your business.

2

Migration Plan

I design the target architecture, estimate costs, and define a rollback plan before touching anything.

3

Test Migration

I run a dry-run migration to a staging environment and verify everything works before going live.

4

Live Cutover

I migrate with minimal downtime, often scheduling the cutover for off-peak hours to minimise disruption.

5

Handover & Support

I walk you through the new setup, tune costs, and provide ongoing support if you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be downtime during the migration?

I design migrations to minimise disruption. For most projects this means a brief planned maintenance window — often a few hours, usually scheduled outside business hours. For some setups, I can achieve near-zero downtime using parallel running and DNS cutover techniques. I'll be clear about what to expect before any work starts.

What if something goes wrong mid-migration?

Every migration we plan includes a rollback procedure — a way to revert to your original setup if anything unexpected happens. I don't start a live cutover without a tested backup and a clear plan to reverse it. In practice, serious issues are rare because I do a full test migration first.

How much will Google Cloud cost to run each month?

It depends on your workload, but most small-to-medium Australian businesses are surprised by how affordable GCP is when it's configured correctly. I right-size your infrastructure — meaning you only pay for what you actually need — and set up budget alerts so there are no surprises. I'll give you a realistic estimate during scoping before any commitment.

Will my team need to learn a new system?

Usually not. A lift-and-shift migration preserves your existing software and workflows — your team keeps using the same tools, just hosted somewhere better. For more transformative migrations, I factor in training and provide plain-English documentation. I don't disappear after handover.

Is my data safe during the transfer?

Yes. All data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS. I take a verified backup of everything before I start, and I never delete your original data until you've confirmed the new environment is working correctly. Google Cloud is also compliant with Australian data sovereignty requirements — your data stays in Australian data centres if required.

Can you migrate from any existing setup?

I work from a wide range of starting points — old physical servers, shared hosting providers, other cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, DigitalOcean), or even a collection of spreadsheets and local hard drives. During the discovery call I assess what you have and confirm whether it's a good fit. If it's outside our scope, I'll tell you honestly.

Do I need to be technical to manage things after migration?

No. I set things up so day-to-day operations don't require technical knowledge. Backups run automatically, monitoring alerts me (or you) if something needs attention, and the maintenance subscription means there's always someone to call. You get the benefits of enterprise infrastructure without needing an in-house IT team.

Can you also automate things once we're in the cloud?

Absolutely. This is one of the biggest benefits of migrating. Once your data and systems are in the cloud, it's much easier to connect them and automate repetitive work. Many clients use migration as the foundation for a broader automation project. Take a look at our Cloud Automation service for what's possible.
